PayPal Holdings, Inc. has announced the rollout of Tap to Pay on Android for Venmo business profile users in the U.S. This feature allows small businesses to accept contactless payments directly on their Android mobile devices without the need for additional hardware or upfront costs.
In today’s cashless society, small businesses rely heavily on the ability to accept card payments. However, many of them are not equipped to meet this consumer behavior shift. With nearly 80 percent of buyers using contactless payments, small businesses have had to invest in and manage card readers to meet customer expectations. Tap to Pay technology aims to change this situation.
Through Venmo’s Tap to Pay feature, small businesses in the U.S. can begin accepting contactless cards and digital wallets within minutes, directly on their mobile devices. There are no upfront costs or additional hardware requirements. Venmo business profile users will also be able to handle both Venmo and card payment transactions within the Venmo app, streamlining operations and cash flow management.
Ed Hallett, Head of Product, Microbusiness, PayPal, stated that Tap to Pay represents the last milestone in making in-person card payments accessible to all. The feature allows users to accept card payments with minimal setup time and costs, benefiting the millions of businesses using Venmo and PayPal Zettle.
Several Venmo business profile users, such as Brothas Cookies, Dear Mama LA, GBarney Nails, and Magical Box Bakery, have already started using and benefiting from Tap to Pay. Heather Driscoll, founder of Magical Box Bakery, shared her positive experience, stating that Tap to Pay enables her to accept credit and debit cards directly on her phone, manage transactions in one place, and have funds settled within the Venmo app.
Small business owners can easily onboard and start accepting contactless cards and digital wallets through their Venmo business profiles. Tap to Pay on Android will be gradually rolled out to all Venmo business profile users in the coming months. Interested businesses can request early access to the feature. Tap to Pay on Android is also available for all PayPal Zettle users in the U.S.
Furthermore, Tap to Pay on iPhone is currently available to select Venmo business profile and PayPal Zettle users, with plans to expand access to all users in the near future. Venmo business profile users can request early access to this feature as well.
