Lynk Global and Palau’s largest Mobile Network Operator (MNO), PNCC, have announced the commencement of initial commercial service to provide satellite-direct-to-mobile phone services to Palau using Lynk’s “cell-towers-in-space” technology. PNCC is the first MNO worldwide to launch Lynk’s sat2phone technology as a commercial service for its subscribers.
PNCC, established in 1982, has played a crucial role in developing a national communications system for Palau over the past four decades. From serving 200 customers initially, PNCC has grown into a comprehensive telecommunications operator that connects customers across the entire archipelago.
Lynk, known as the leading sat2phone telecoms provider, aims to ensure mobile phone subscribers in Palau have uninterrupted connectivity throughout the country. The initial Sat2Phone service will be introduced as a beta service in the Southwest Islands and will eventually extend to cover all remote areas and Palau’s Maritime Economic Zone. In addition, Lynk’s technology will serve as a backup during natural disasters, enhancing network resilience in this island nation.
Charles Miller, CEO of Lynk, expresses excitement about partnering with PNCC to launch this service, emphasizing that Lynk is the world’s only patented, proven, commercially-licensed, and operational satellite-direct-to-phone service. Lynk has established over 30 commercial agreements with MNOs worldwide and has successfully conducted demonstrations in more than 40 countries across seven continents. Lynk plans to initiate commercial service with numerous other MNOs globally in 2023.
Simon Fraser, CEO of PNCC, sees the partnership with Lynk as a transformative step toward connectivity for Palau. The focus is not only on advanced technology but also on uniting people, connecting remote islands, and increasing the nation’s resilience. PNCC is committed to providing world-class telecommunications services to every person in Palau, regardless of their location.
The collaboration between Lynk and PNCC signifies a new era of connectivity for Palau, bringing advanced satellite-based communication services to its residents. It highlights the commitment to bridging the digital divide and ensuring that even remote areas have access to reliable telecommunications.
